As we look ahead to 2015, we’re determined not to break our “book a week” New Year’s resolution. Though past resolutions have been met with mixed results, we think this one is sure to be a winner. Now, we just need to figure out how not to blow our budget on new books….
Here are some of the 2015 titles we’re eagerly anticipating!
God Help the Child by Toni Morrison
Since our high school days, Morrison has been on our required reading list. The novel centers on a woman known as Bride whose damaging childhood paves the way for an unsettling future. “It’s not my fault,” the new novel begins, according to Knopf. “So you can’t blame me. I didn’t do it and have no idea how it happened.” This powerful beginning promises to leave us hanging on until the end—typical of the masterful Morrison.
Funny Girl by Nick Hornby
Hornby is the man behind such delightful hits as About a Boy, High Fidelity and Fever Pitch (all of which went on to become delightful movies). His new novel is set in London in the swinging 60s and follows Sophie Straw, a young woman who becomes a television star. London and the 1960s? Sign us up! Hornby’s tales are always fun, smart and witty adventures.
The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin
Thanks to Martin and the incredible Game of Thrones series, we have embraced our inner geek. Though no one seems to know if the book will be released in 2015, we are hopeful that Martin will finally come through this year. The sixth novel in the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, Martin intends to resolve the cliffhangers from the previous installment “very early”, saying “I’m going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Meereen—the battle of Slaver’s Bay. And then take it from there.”
Suddenly One Summer by Julie James
We can always count on the New York Times bestselling James when we need some escapist, sexy fun. Nothing will make a woman less interested in marriage than a successful career as a divorce lawyer. For Victoria Slade, dating is fine as long as it remains casual. But her handsome new client leaves her challenging her long held beliefs. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
Is it too early to think summer reading? This coming of age story focuses on Sydney, a young girl trying to figure out where she belongs. Her older brother Peyton has long been the family favorite but when his reckless behavior leads to a drunk driving accident and a jail sentence, Sydney seems to be the only one more worried about the victim than her brother. Perhaps the place where you find love and acceptance isn’t always the place you expect.
Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
We admit we enjoyed the silly antics of the Shopaholic series far too much—and were thrilled to hear that Kinsella is publishing her first YA novel. As if teenage life wasn’t hard enough, 14-year-old Audrey suffers from an anxiety disorder that makes it nearly impossible. Enter Linus, a friend of her brothers who Audrey feels closer to than anyone in the world. As their connection deepens, a relationship grows that is more healing than any pill a doctor could ever prescribe.
I Was Here by Gayle Foreman
