Nothing screams murder mystery than when someone dies in the alley behind a New Orleans pet boutique. Yup, you read that right. Julie Chase’s Cat Got Your Diamonds is a light-hearted mystery about Lacy Crocker, a Magazine Street pet boutique owner who gets caught up in a murder investigation after surviving a burglary in her shop. Crocker, the daughter of a vet and wealthy socialite, is thrust into the spotlight when she fends off an attacker and that attacker is found dead behind her store minutes after she fled and called the police.
Adding an element of romance in the mix, Lacy Crocker is forced to interact with New Orleans Police Detective Jack Oliver who is the city’s handsome (and wealthy) bachelor. As the murder investigation unfolds, the two become more and more attached and seem to play their own romantic game of cat and mouse (pun intended). Lacy’s store, aptly named Furry Godmother, faces near ruin as her reputation is engrossed in gossip and scandal amongst the Garden District’s elite. This book has plenty of engaging characters and plot twists along the way. A great weekend read for those who like animals and murder mysteries.
