Claire (Callan) Fogel is the author of Blackthorne Forest, the first book in The Blackthorne series. She shares the reads she is curling up with when she isn’t writing.
The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness
This is the third book in an intellectual vampire/time travel/romance series. She is such a wonderful writer, I am in awe. The first two books in the series should be read first: A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night. This series has been described as “grown up fantasy.” Each book in the series is quite long, over 500 pages, but the story is so riveting, I simply didn’t want it to end.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
I’m re-reading this wonderful first book in the series for the third time! I’m sure millions of people have read the first book by now, especially since it’s become a TV series. Nevertheless, I will probably re-read this wonderful time travel/romance series again and again.
Broken Promise by Jen Wylie
This is the third book in yet another series. Obviously, I love books in series! The other-worldly setting and a young girl who has lost her entire family in an attack on her home city make for a fascinating tale, full of wonderful characters to whom I got extremely attached. The series is a fantasy, romance, and coming of age saga, considered Young Adult, but infinitely enjoyable to adults who haven’t lost their love of fantasy.
After a career mainly in sales and marketing where she focused her skills on business writing and considered herself the “queen of spreadsheets,” Claire decided to write the kind of novels she most enjoys reading, stories rich in fantasy, magic, and a little romance.
A confirmed bookworm, Claire lives in the mountains of central California with her talented musician husband Neil, who totally understands the creative drive existing in all of us, and a lovable Boxer dog, Roscoe, who is convinced his “Mom and Dad” can do no wrong!
